Filming rehearsals: a great idea... but it can get messy.

Most theatre companies film their rehearsals. It's a valuable tool for actors and directors alike: seeing your performance from the outside, memorising your movements, reworking an intention, reviewing between sessions. The problem isn't filming — it's sharing and finding the videos again.

The WhatsApp solution: handy... for a few days

We used to share videos in the WhatsApp group. Some people watched them, then messages piled up and a few weeks later, finding the right video was impossible. And if an actor hadn't downloaded it in time, it had to be reposted.

WhatsApp isn't designed to archive content. It's a communication channel, not a resource library. Using one in place of the other inevitably creates chaos.

The YouTube solution: effective but not ideal

Some companies use YouTube. It's better for keeping videos over time. But you have to create links, manage access, find the right version, organise videos by scene.

Very quickly you end up with an endless list of videos with mysterious names:

"Rehearsal_12_v3_final_bis.mp4"

Then comes:

"Rehearsal_12_v4_final_bis_corrected.mp4"

Nobody knows which one is right. And finding a specific scene in a list of fifty poorly titled videos is a guaranteed waste of time.

Organisation designed for theatre

In DispoThéâtre, videos are directly linked to the show. They can be sorted by scene, grouped by rehearsal, and kept in their various dated versions.

This way, everyone immediately finds the right video without digging through hundreds of messages or a disorganised YouTube list. The structure follows the logic of theatre work: a show, scenes, rehearsals.

Comment on a specific moment

A video becomes even more useful when you can discuss it. DispoThéâtre lets you add comments directly on a precise moment in the video.

For example: "0:42 — remember to turn more towards the audience." "1:18 — excellent timing on that line." "2:05 — watch your positioning."

Notes stay attached to the right moment and no longer get lost in conversations. The actor can review them whenever they want, in the right context.

A revision tool for actors

Between rehearsals, actors can review their scenes, find the latest notes and follow the progress of the work. It's an excellent way to improve without waiting for the next rehearsal.

After all, when a rehearsal ends, the work often continues at home. It makes sense to have a tool designed specifically for that.
